Abstract |
Background. The problem of production specialization research is particularly relevant today. This is due to needs of improving the socio-economic development of the country and certain regions, the efficiency of regions’ production specialization. The purpose of the research is to theoretically and empirically analyze the production specialization in regions of Volga Federal District, taking into account international experience.
Materials and methods. The research taks were implemented through analyzing specialization indices in Volga Federal District’s branches of agriculture and industry. The research methodology was based on the systematic approach.
Results. The authors theoretically analyzed the production specialization of regions, disclosed its determining factors, considered the industrial specialization of Russian regions, including the VFD regions, disclosed areas of specialization of Russian agricultural regions using the Chinese experience.
Conclusions. The determining factor in choosing a region’s agricultural specialization is natural and climatic conditions. In VFD there is a pronounced agricultural specialization in Mari El, Mordovia, Chuvashia, Penza and Saratov regions. The development of this specialization is possible through the use of agricultural, scientific and technological achievements.
